This is a clinic to introduce horsemen to the sport of endurance riding. If you don't know how to ride, or have no experience with horses we suggest that you take some riding instruction prior to attending the endurance clinic, if you wish to ride. We offer auditing positions at a reduced fee, if you would like access to the information but do not wish to participate on a horse.
Our Goals
When you complete the endurance Clinic you will be prepared to enter the sport of endurance !

Examine and evaluate a horse to determine if they are a good choice for endurance. |

Make a wise choice of distance and terrain for your first endurance event. |

Prepare your horse with proper feed, conditioning, saddle fit and shoeing. |

Set up your camp and vet your horse into a endurance ride. |

Provide crewing for your horse with the support of electrolytes, pro biotic, feed and special care. |

Pace your horse and handle changes in terrain to successfully complete your first endurance ride. |

SAMPLE Clinic Schedule (this is only a sample of what a clinic might be like)
Day 1. Endurance- determine strengths and weaknesses.
Conformation discussion using FLF's endurance horses.
Shoeing basics and special endurance equipment.
Lunch: Saddle fit clinic
Get acquainted with your equine partner.
Riding session, demonstrate trail etiquette and rules of endurance.
Day 2. Riding session, discuss diagonals and leads.
Work on trail while being video taped; discuss how to handle changes in terrain.
Lunch: view film discuss centered riding.
Q & A session, presentation on endurance horse diet.
Day 3. Saddle up for endurance pacing- group 2 will crew for group one.
Lunch on trail
Introduction to Cardio Recovery Index.
Discussion on evaluating fitness and techniques for evaluation.
Demonstration of flexion.
Day 4. Check list for travel and camping , set up base camp at Adobe Ranch. Demonstrate options in portable corrals. Mock Registration and vet check. All participants will take a horse through the vet check.
Picnic Lunch
Saddle horses and go over pre-ride check list including: easy boots, cruppers, breast collars, rump rugs, ice boots, electrolytes and pro biotic . Take a ride to view the course.
Day 5. MOCK ENDURANCE RIDE! Start will be at 8:30 am
David and Tracy will be on trail to observe and assist.
First loop is 12 miles. 45 min. vet check, auditors will crew and run the vet gate. Second loop is 13 miles.
Best Condition judging (David and Tracy will be assisted by the auditors in judging the best condition horse). Riders will show the horse they rode for Best Condition.
Saturday Night Barbeque and Awards party!
All of Saturdays events will be filmed. Riders receive a copy of the weeks activities on video.
Accommodations: The housing is not included in the clinic price, however Casa De Suenos, B & B is located on the trail and will be the center for social activities during the week. Check website: www.casaofdreams.com
Meals: Breakfast served at Casa de Suenos
Lunch provided by FL Farm
Wine and cheese party Monday evening
Dinner Saturday night
Special meals can be provide for vegetarians
Horses and equipment are provide, along with transportation throughout the week.
Private Lessons: David and Tracy offer lessons on trail. Hourly fee is $ 50.00 on your horse or ours. Lessons can be purchased in a package at a reduced rate.
Endurance horse Lease: Flight Leader Farm offers endurance horses for lease. The rate for a local ride is $ 300.00 for a 25 or 30 mile ride and $ 500.00 for a 50 or 60 mile ride. Rates for international and FEI rides are by private treaty.
Demo Saddles: When riding at Flight Leader Farm you may demo several styles of Specialized Saddles at no charge.
